OptionC is an essential tool we use at SMS to communicate with parents. This is where you will find important forms to sign, progress reports and report cards as well as grades for your child. There are many families (K-8) who have not yet signed in to OptionC to sign essential forms. It is essential that these forms are signed electronically ASAP. Please log in to OptionC TODAY to sign them. If you need help locating your Username and Password, please contact Mrs. D.
WALK-A-THON FOR CATHOLIC EDUCATION
TOMORROW, OCTOBER 4th, 2024!
Tomorrow is the BIG DAY – Walkathon 2024 is HERE! The students are so excited to be heading out into our community to show their pride for our school. The Walk-A-Thon is one of our school’s two major annual fundraisers and a tradition at SMS for over 30 years. The proceeds of the Walk-A-Thon support capital improvements and technology upgrades for our school, as well as special events and classroom improvements for our students.
Our goal this year is $25,000. Last year we raised over $22,000! We need the help and support of each and every SMS student & family to achieve this goal and to make the Walk-A-Thon a fun & safe event. In this week’s Family Envelope, you will find several papers dedicated to this event including a pledge sheet and a prize donation and volunteer form. We rely on prize donations for the prizes we offer as incentives to the students for raising money. Each student receives one ticket for a prize entry per $10 raised! There are some amazing prizes so far and you will want to be sure your child has the opportunity to win one by sending in your pledges. Ask your neighbors, friends and family to support your child and St. Margaret School.
Please note these helpful reminders about Walkathon:
No student can walk unless they send in their permission slip (you should have received an alert if the child did not hand theirs in).
Students may wear their gym uniforms or spiritwear.
Preschool students will walk around the black top at school.
PK4 will walk to the playground and return back to school
Gr Kdg-3 minor walk begins at 10AM. Gr 4-8 major walk begins at 9 AM
Students will receive a treat after the walk
Students will have an early dismissal with CARES until 5PM with Buses available.
All volunteers have received an email from HSA with information about when and where to be in order to help out. Thank you to all our volunteers!
Pledges can be sent into the Office in the form of cash or check made payable to St. Margaret School or can be made online at the https://bit.ly/SMS_Walkathon
Join us on Saturday, November 9th for Designer Bag Bingo. This fundraiser benefits our 8th grade class. Gather your friends and get a table together for fun and the chance to win prizes, bags, raffles and more! This event is BYO food and drink and is for adults only.

The first Tailgating Night here on the SMS grounds was a success. Many of our parents came and enjoyed the food truck, dancing with the Dukes of Overbrook (the band whose members include Nick Caprari (dad of Emily (6) and Conall (3) and Mike Hilferty (dad of Cameron (8) and Leila (5)), games and a beautiful night. Thank you to the Dukes of Overbrook for providing wonderful music and Beth Mirzai, Erica Santo and Marie Schult for organizing!
We hope to carry on this tradition each year.

SMS is always in need of volunteers for Lunch Recess Duty, to volunteer as Homeroom parents and for HSA events, and as chaperones on Field Trips. We would like every member of our community to have the opportunity to volunteer and get more involved at SMS.
In order to do so, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia requires that all volunteers obtain the following clearances and training certificates:
1. Safe Environment Training (in person or on Zoom)
2. Mandated Reporter Training (video training)
3. PA Criminal Background Check
4. PA Child Abuse Clearance Check
5. EITHER a Signed Volunteer Disclosure Statement (if you have lived in PA for 10 or more CONTINUOUS years) OR FBI Fingerprinting (if you have NOT lived in PA for 10 or more CONTINUOUS years).

The SMS Faculty and Staff would like to thank Amy Pibernat (mom of Mia, KDG) for donating a LifeVac School Kit to our school. The LifeVac is a portable, easy-to-use airway clearance device designed to save both adults and children during choking emergencies.
