Parent/caregiver drivers: Please take a minute to review the following guidelines for AM and PM carline so that all of our children arrive safely at school.

AM CARES: If your child arrives at school before 7:45, you will be charged for AM CARES  

 SMS MORNING and DISMISSAL CAR LINE GUIDELINES:      Please remember the most important goal is the safety of the children. During arrival and dismissal, do not be on your cell phone. Please use your FAMILY CAR TAG when picking up your child/ren at dismissal time.

Please do not park your car in the lot to walk over to retrieve your child.  When approaching the cafeteria entrance, please pull up as far as you can toward the outside stairs leading to school. This will give others the ability to leave their children off safely. A faculty member will be there to assist your child out of the car and give you the opportunity to remain in your car and move on. Please practice buckling and unbuckling the seatbelt with your child.

 Reminder: At dismissal, please stay in your car – you do not need to get out of your car.  This is very dangerous for you, your child and other drivers.

 If you have another family/friend picking up your child, please pass on these important guidelines in this letter.

This weekend, on Saturday, Sept 21st from 6:30-9:00 pm is Fall Tailgating Night. Join us for an evening of socializing, meeting new friends, good food and live music. The cost is $25 per person which includes dinner from the food truck). This event is BYO drinks & chairs. Park your car in the lot and set up your tailgating spot or just bring your chairs. HSA is selling Mums for your Fall outdoor decor through Taddeo’s in Havertown. Pre-order your mums by TOMORROW, September 20th and pick up at school on Friday, September 27th in carline or Saturday, September 28th from 1-2PM at School. A copy of the order form was sent in last week’s Thursday Family Envelope. 

You can also shop at Taddeo’s on the weekend of Friday, September 27th through Sunday September 29th. Please stop by and mention SMS when you are purchasing your mums. Taddeo’s is located at 2236 St Denis Lane, Havertown.

WALK-A-THON FOR CATHOLIC EDUCATION
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4th, 2024

The 2024-25 school year is off to a racing start at SMS and we are excited to say that it is officially Walk-A-Thon time! The Walk-A-Thon is one of our school’s two major annual fundraisers and a tradition at SMS for over 30 years. The proceeds of the Walk-A-Thon support capital improvements and technology upgrades for our school, as well as special events and classroom improvements for our students.

Our goal this year is $25,000. Last year we raised over $22,000! We need the help and support of each and every SMS student & family to achieve this goal and to make the Walk-A-Thon a fun & safe event. In this week’s Family Envelope, you will find several papers dedicated to this event including a pledge sheet and a prize donation and volunteer form. We rely on prize donations for the prizes we offer as incentives to the students for raising money. Each student receives one ticket for a prize entry per $10 raised! We also rely on volunteers for help on the day of the Walk-A-Thon. All volunteers must have their required clearances and trainings handed in to the office.

Pledges can be sent into the Office in the form of cash or check made payable to St. Margaret School or can be made online at the https://bit.ly/SMS_Walkathon

In order to participate, your child will also need a signed permission slip on file. Please log in to Option C to complete this permission slip under eForms.

Register here for the Annual St. Margaret’s Golf Outing

SMS is always in need of volunteers for Lunch Recess Duty, to volunteer as Homeroom parents and for HSA events, and as chaperones on Field Trips. We would like every member of our community to have the opportunity to volunteer and get more involved at SMS.

In order to do so, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia requires that all volunteers obtain the following clearances and training certificates:

1. Safe Environment Training (in person or on Zoom)
2. Mandated Reporter Training (video training)
3. PA Criminal Background Check
4. PA Child Abuse Clearance Check
5. EITHER a Signed Volunteer Disclosure Statement (if you have lived in PA for 10 or more CONTINUOUS years) OR FBI Fingerprinting (if you have NOT lived in PA for 10 or more CONTINUOUS years).

SMS would like to thank Veronica Angulo Diaz, mother of Vivian (PK3) and Emma (K) for donating her time and her talents to organize and label our gently-used uniform closet. We appreciate your hard work and dedication!                                                                                                                         

Clodagh Meath, our school crossing guard for over 15 years, passed away peacefully earlier this week. She always brought a smile to our students as she helped them across the street safely. We ask that you keep Clodagh and her family in your prayers. We do not have any information about services at this time.
